About

This whole thing started because I recently became aware of the way that I live my life, a way that I didn’t want to anymore. The bff, since I met her a million years ago, was already a vegetarian and now with her son, she’s made the change to almost vegan for her own reasons. By default, I partially became a vegetarian/vegan too since I’m basically always with her. It wasn’t until after being bombarded with several images of the abuse that animals have had to suffer just so I could eat the foods that I eat, and look the way that I look, I realized that I couldn’t ignore this anymore.  I wanted to document that journey. I love sharing stories and writing. Hopefully this will give me a platform to practice that while sharing in my journey towards the me that is more inline with my beliefs.

I also happen to have a lot (a LOT) of things that I love and you can be sure that I will blog about them often. These include but are not limited to the following:

My cats:
I have three cats. Mia (rescued), Kenis (stray), and Isis (stray). I adopted Mia from a  shelter first after my dad passed away from cancer. I wanted a companion and I had always said that once I move out on my own, I would get a cat. The bff actually was the one to encourage me to go through with it. Mia came to me named, but I loved the name as she shared the same name with my favourite princess by Meg Cabot! She has been with me through a lot of nights crying (me) and sleeping on my chest (her, obviously) and purring the night away. And then rudely waking me up in the morning by pouncing on my chest and biting my nose off. Kensi came next. I was looking for another cat to keep my Mia company while I was away at work. A friend of a friend came upon a stray litter of kittens and offered me one. Kensi was named after my favourite ncis agent, Kensi Blye. My Kensi is more floofy and less kick butty than her tv counterpart. She prefers to sit on my lap when I’m reading or watching tv, getting her belly scratched. Isis came last, about a year or so after. She was another stray kitten from when a bunch of us went up near Ottawa area for white water rafting. I wasn’t going to take them home, but one look at her little sad calico face and I knew I had to have her. The vet had originally said that she would not survive as she had been abandoned by her mother at such a young age. But she is now a healthy and giant butthead! Isis was named after the Egyptian Goddess, inspired after reading the Kane Chronicles by Rick Riordan.

These three are also the inspiration for my blog name, they’re the first two letters of my kitten’s names.

BACKSTREET BOYS!!!!!:

I have loved the Backstreet Boys since I was in grade eight. It was by accident that I even found out about them since I grew up in a fairly strict household and we never listened to mainstream radio. It was always my dad’s oldies cassette tapes. But from the moment I heard I’ll Never Break Your Heart as a 12 year old, my normal life was over. It became a constant need to listen to their music non-stop. The need to know everything EVERYTHING about them, what was their favourite colour, favourite movie, favourite song, favourite beverage, favourite dinosaur, what cologne did they wear? EVERYTHING! The need to see them live, meet them. They may have gone on a little hiatus, a hiatus that may or may not have broken me. But since they came back together in 2004 (2005?), my love for them has matured (sort of) and continued to grow. I am so crazy proud of them and their individual and collective achievements. I am proud to call myself a bsb fan. Forever.

Reading:
I have so many books, it’s insane and I keep adding more books. I love reading. I love being transported away into another world. I’m trying to go more digital, save some shelf space, and while I love my Kobo, there’s nothing like having an actual book in your hands and flipping through the pages.
Some of my favourites include:
the Harry Potter series by JK Rowling
Man’s Search for Meaning by Viktor E Frankl
The Princess Diaries series by Meg Cabot and anything that has been written by her, really!!
the Enchanted Inc series by Shanna Swendson
the Percy Jackson series and Kane Chronicles by Rick Riordan
the Hunger Games series by Suzanne Collins
the Sookie Stackhouse and Midnight Texas series by Charlaine Harris
Flowers for Algernon by Daniel Keyes
We Are Not Ourselves by Matthew Thomas
the Divergent series by Veronica Roth
the Anita Blake series by Laurell K Hamilton
and so so so many more. Basically (and clearly) I really love series books, I love seeing the development of the characters, what happens next in their lives.

Nail Art:
I love doing my nails. I love making them all pretty and all the different colours available to me. I love looking at what other people have done and the creative ways they have discovered to do their nails and gives me inspiration to do my own nails.

TV shows:
I have so many tv shows going on right now that it’s almost impossible to keep up with everything. I basically have about a bunch of tv shows each night of the week except Saturdays. I know, it’s insane.
On my list of tv show favourites:
CSI (all three of them, though I have a soft spot for NY), trying to warm up to CSI: Cyber. I like the idea of it, but the acting on it is pretty atrocious. It’s like CSI Miami, but all the characters except Ted Danson’s is Horatio Cane. I’m REALLY trying to like it.
Supernatural
NCIS (all three, but my favourite is LA)
Criminal Minds (and I can’t wait for CM: Beyond Borders, yay Gary Sinise on my tv screen again!)
Gotham
Agents of Shield
How to Get Away with Murder
Brooklyn 99
The Flash
The Office (the US one)
Scorpion
Blue Bloods
Fresh Off the Boat
This year I’m getting really into Blindspot, Code Black, Limitless, and Dancing with the Stars because the one and only Nick Carter is on it!! Obviously gotta support my boy. Also started watching Heroes Reborn because I love Zachary Levi. I started watching watching Heroes on Netflix and I’m getting the storylines confused.
Seriously, thank god for DVRs. I don’t know how I would catch up on all my shows.

Cooking/Baking:
This one was new for me. I never really had an interest in it, my dad was the cook. But since my dad was diagnosed with cancer and didn’t have the strength to cook for me any more, I obviously had to pick up the cooking. I loved discovering new fun and easy recipes.
Now that I’m trying a semi-vegetarian/vegan lifestyle, I’m trying to learn as much as possible about cooking and baking that is both nutritious and yummy and still easy. i say that I’m a semi-vegetarian/vegan because I still eat some seafood (if they’re sustainably sourced fish), but I am trying to cut back on other animal by-products like milk. Hey, I’m new to this and still trying to figure out certain things for myself.

So that’s me in a sort of giant nutshell! I’m sure there will be more to discover!

  1. Thank you for following my blog. I also love cats. I have four. There names are Puss, MaryGold, TigerLilly and SnapDragon. My MaryGold is also a stray kitten I discovered abandoned when she was about 7 days old. Today she is a spunk 4 year old kitty. I look forward to reading your blog.
